10 Ways to Reconnect With the True You

  1. Be Kind. Always assume other people could use more kindness in their life - because, the truth is, everybody can. Next time you want to react, pause - then respond with kindness.
  2. Simplify Your Life. Get rid of or file your pile of receipts. Put the folded laundry away so it's out of your view. Straighten the shoes. Hang up your coats. Do whatever you can to simplify your environment. Less clutter = less stress = more time to focus on what really matters in life!
  3. Pay It Forward. When someone does something nice for you, take note of what it is, and try to do that same thing for someone else. From a mundane action to a thoughtful gift - make someone else's day better by paying good deeds forward.
  4. Smile. Some studies suggest that it's possible to smile your way out of a bad mood. Try it next time you notice you're in a rut. Even if you don't always feel it on the inside, smiling puts off a different vibe to others, and you might notice people responding more positively when you're around.
  5. Unplug. Figure out a way to escape from computers, phones, iPads, and TV for just a little while. Find a different way to use your brain and give your eyes, neck, back, wrists and fingers a break from constant technology posture!
  6. Set an Intention. It's hard to feel grounded when there is a ton going on. Setting an intention can help hone in your focus on what really matters, whether it's being a responsible employee or an attentive parent. One day at a time!
  7. Make a List. Something about checking things off a list brings me great satisfaction. Sometimes I make lists of things I've already done just to check it off (Seriously. No shame.) By visually displaying everything you need to get done, you can start gaining a bit more control of what's going on.
  8. Give a Compliment. When in doubt, find a compliment for yourself or give one to someone else. On the flip side, when someone compliments you, remember to say THANKS! Most people don't give out compliments that aren't true - so bask in it!
  9. Go Outside. Fresh air is a great way to reconnect with what's important and in your control. Fresh air boosts the mood and allows us to refresh our state of mind.
  10. Forgive. Find a way to let go of whatever frustrations or angry emotions you're holding onto. These thoughts are weighing you down. Whether it's an argument with your significant other or you lost one of your favorite belongings, holding onto anger isn't going to get you very far. Forgiving is an essential step creating more space for positive energy and emotions.
